Arsenal boss Unai Emery has refused to be questioned about the transfer of midfielder Denis Suarez to the director of Roma Monchi.

Barcelona confirmed that Suarez was eliminated by the 25-man squad to face Sevilla on Wednesday with a new signing that gave preference to Kevin-Prince Boateng.

The Catalan giants revealed their absence on Twitter, stating: "After confirming the transfer of Boateng, there are 18 players in the team to face Sevilla FC Denis Suárez is the absent player."

Ed Emery provided an update on the negotiations, starting with Suarez: "I do not want to talk about every player, I know the club is working with several players.

"The club continues to work on that - it's difficult, you know, but I'm working with our players and I think we need - and we can - a few players to help after our injuries like Rob Holding, like Welbeck, like Hector Bellerin.

"But we can play with the players we have now and the same message is for you and all the fans, we just want to hire one or two players who can really help us with good performances."

"The club is working, they know our intentions, our chances of hiring players who can help us, but they work and also with the communication with us."

Emery also responded to rumors that the Gunners are watching the director of Monchi to replace the outgoing Sven Mislintat.

"Now I can only say that [Monchi] is working in Rome, I worked very well with him in Seville, my relationship with him is good, but the problem is only the responsibility of the club.

"I can only say that he is a good person and a good professional.

"Maybe if you do this recruiting too quickly, you might make a mistake.

"I think it's best to be calm and find the best person to do this job, I think the club is working on it responsibly, but it's not my problem.

"If the club decides to hire a sports director, I agree with them."
